I'm just working out some ideas for big projects to work on this year.
I would like to create a Spanish collection in our library.
I would like to separate out the Star Wars and Star Trek novels and either put them in a special section or at least put them all together under SF STAR.
I would like to create a Juvenile Series section like we already did for the Young Adult section.
I would like to catalog the magazines.
I would like to catalog all other materials we have in the library that are not already cataloged.
I would like to clean up all series entries.
I would like to consider cataloging the paperbacks in some form.
I would like to do a massive weed of the entire collection.
I would like to do an inventory of the collection.
Ok, I think that is a good start.

My job
I just thought I would take a few moments to describe my job. A lot of people are confused about what I do and just to confuse matters further, I don't even know what my official job title is. I am either the Cataloger or Library Associate. Cataloging is the primary focus of my job, but Library Associate might better describe what I do since I spend more than 50% of my time doing things other than cataloging.
Here are a few of the activities I do to support the library:
I work at the Circulation desk.
I work at the Reference desk.
I help select books for the library to purchase.
I take pictures and manage our Flickr account.
I help with various programs when I am needed.
I like the variety that my job offers. I wouldn't want to do any one of my duties as a full time job, but the mixture of different activities keeps things interesting for me, and if I ever get bored with one, I can always do something else for a while.
So come visit me at the library and you never know what you will find me doing!

First Post
Everybody has to have a first post to their blog. Well this one is mine. Welcome to Keith the Librarian's Blog! Keith the Librarian is a bit of a play on words...you know, like Conan the Barbarian. Clever, I know...except most people won't make the connection and I find that humor that only hits 5% of the population really can't be considered funny; it is just exclusive. So I'll be working on an icon of me in a loin cloth to make the connection a little bit more obvious. Sound good?
So the purpose of this blog (blog? Blog? Does it matter?) will be to talk about issues in the world of a male, 29 year old librarian. Eventually I hope to have my blog be part of my library's website, but for now it will just be a solo effort. So stay tuned for more exciting adventures of Keith the Librarian! (It does have a bit of a ring to it, doesn't it?)
